I just got a new job and will be moving from Tx. I am single and at first was looking south of Quantico in the Stafford area but just was told by my employer that the drive going north to the base will be a major pain even while living no more than 5 miles away. So now I am thinking about looking north for a reverse commute. Please if anyone can quickly offer of area to look in that the commute wont be terrible. I would rather rent a house than an apartment but will consider anything. I dont care about schools but dont want to be in a run down dangerous crime filled area either. I am traveling to the NoVa area later this week and need some ideas. And if anyone knows a good realtor please let me know.

You could consider Lorton, Woodbridge, or Alexandria for a reverse commute. What would be your price range?

I knew I forgot something. I would like to keep the rent under $2000 unless it is just a great place.

I would skip MOST of Woodbridge. Notice I said most. If it were me I'd look along the Dumfries RD/234 corridor anywhere west of I 95. The drive will be easy for the drive to Quantico. Montclair is one subdivision in this area and there are many others. From a crime perspective this is by far your best bet. As a retired police officer for this county I would live along the 234 corridor without hesitation. I'd avoid anything along RT 1. Feel free to pm for more info.

A friend of my parents recommended Triangle, VA to them (they are going to be looking for a retirement home).

Is that area safe, and are there any good retirement communities or areas in this general area?

(sorry to slightly detour this thread)

Depends where in Triangle but I'd avoid much of it. There are some newer subdivisions there that have some nice homes and safe neighborhoods but the older neighborhoods I'd avoid. There are some old homes with some good people living there, many retired military, but there is more than enough riff raff to make Triangle a less than desirable area. At the end of Fuller Heights and Graham Park Rd (Dumfries) are some of the better areas.

Adam, I'm a military member and will be relocating in Nov. I have a new construction 3BD 3.5BTH 3 level townhouse about 6 miles from Quantico in the Port Potomac housing community. Gourmet kitchen, wood floors, 2 car garage, etc. I am asking $1990 for rent. Contact me at Mr_masalah@yahoo.com if you're interested.
