Default Anyone being sent to Ft. Meade due to BRAC?

There is an article in today's Baltimore Sun which talks about a recently completed working facility toured by Department of Defense yesterday with 2 more opening in the spring. It also mentions that more than 5,000 employees will move to the base from Jan.-June next year. Are the majority of these employees going to be commuting from Northern VA.?

Is there anyone on this forum who knows what is going on with BRAC Ft. Meade employees relocating from other places looking to purchase homes? I was told to expect housing prices to rise in the counties surrounding Ft. Meade due to increased need for those relocating. I have actually only seen a few posters asking about relocating due to BRAC for Ft. Meade while I have seen quite a few for those relocated to APG(Aberdeen Proving Grounds). Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks in advance!

Glad you brought this up. I have a close friend recently assigned to Fort Meade (came from overseas). They have a house in Haymarket so yes, they are commuting from NoVA.

My household was affected by BRAC but to Ft. Knox, KY as opposed to Ft. Meade. I think what is going on at Knox will go on at Meade.

Housing demand is very high. I have heard prices are rising. The rental market is very tight which means some are settling in rentals that are far from the base i.e. Louisville which is over an hour commute in some parts. Higher-end places are being constructed in prepping for the arrival of BRAC employees who have higher housing budgets than regular active-duty military.

I would think that a lot of NoVAns would move to the adjacent Ft. Meade area because of the mileage of the commute to Meade, not even bringing traffic into the equation.

DH's job is getting transferred from Arlington to Ft. Meade. There's no way he'll be making that commute--but we aren't willing to move, either, due to my job. He's told supervisors to either find him a new project, or he'll be looking for a new job.
