Can anyone rec a decent place for lunch in that area? (on a weekday)

Not McDonald's but not expensive, either. Reasonable but yummy would be good. Thanks.

You might have better luck in the DC forum.

If you go south of the Capitol on Independence Ave and then east where PA Ave intersects, there is a group of restaurants and pubs on the right hand side. For sandwiches, beer, and lunch fare, try the Hawk n' Dove:

Hawk 'n' Dove - Southeast - Washington, DC 20003 | Metromix Washington D.C.

They also have a pool table (I think) but I haven't been there in awhile. I think there is also a kabob place next to it, several other restaurants and a Cosi or Starbucks.

There is a cafe-style place directly across the street.

The other suggestion is to walk north to Union Station. Lots of eateries in there.
Also, If you like Irish pubs, The Dubliner (one of my favorites), Kelly's Irish Pub, and Cap City Brew Pub are just west of Union Station on N.Capitol & F Sts. Enjoy!
