I realize Orange isn't technically in NOVA but it's also not really near anything. I was there today on my motorcycle and snapped a few pics in the historic area. There are a number of historic churches very close to each other which I like taking pics of. It's a nice little town for those in NOVA to visit.

Orange is my hometown. Born and raised.

It's about 35 minutes from Charlottesville, 45 minutes from Fredericksburg. Home of President James Madison (Montpelier).
The President Madison Inn (in BF's photo) is the local looney bin.

Skydive Orange is a big attraction.

Old thread but I am interestd in Orange. I understand it is fairly loosly populated and quaint. But What does it offer in the way of rasing a family... Housing, schools, cost of living, crime, culture??

With its proximity to other more developed areas like charlottsville and fredricksberg does it have a decent population of young families who maybe commute for work?

Many many years ago I lived in the DC area and travelled through there and it was beautifull.. I still have family in Ashland and freidns in the DC area so I still get to visit VA often..

I have been thinking of relocating for the past 5 years and my wife is partial to the south (va is south for us ) and I of course have a connection with va so its sounded natural to consider it..

Charlottsville is a little beyond my price range of 200k. Would like a clean 3+ br 2+ ba home in a nice area with other homes and possible a walkable town center and decent amenities.. Schools are important and a lively culture for kids with things to do..

You might want to ask on the general Virginia board; they might know more about Orange. If Orange doesn't work for you, there are many lovely towns in Virginia along the Route 29 or I-81 corridor - Lynchburg, Roanoake, and Staunton come to mind. They may be work looking into. Good luck.
