Google should provide some answers but I do know they have a pretty good Hispanic/Latino population for a variety of reasons. Not a majority by any means but a good number. Otherwise I don't know.

Winchester city is fairly diverse. Someone who lives there voted for Obama two years ago, although it is still 80%+ white. (There's large #'s of renters there, plus the presence of Shenandoah Univ.)

Frederick County is 95% white and blood-red politically.

See: http://www.city-data.com/city/Winchester-Virginia.html and scroll
down.

Or briefly:

  • White (74.4%)
  • Hispanic (11.2%)
  • Black (10.6%)
  • Asian (1.7%)
  • Two or more races (1.7%)
  • Other races (0.4%)
We just moved recently to Winchester from NoVA. What I see is mostly white with blacks and Hispanics (mostly Central American) comprising most of the non-whites. A few Asians (mostly Chinese? and Indian) and I see a good number of mixed/bi-racial (b&w) families. Few Middle Eastern/Arabic nations or African nationals. Not sure about Caribbeans although there is an outstanding Jamaican restaurant in town and they have their group of associates.

But if you are non-white don't judge the way you're treated by the % listed above. The people here are extremely friendly.

Jamaican? Do you mean the tiny one of the corner of Piccadilly and Braddock? Or is there another one?

Hmmm, daughter and I tried it a couple summers ago and we didn't think it was all that great. Maybe I'll have to give it another try next time we're up that way! There's so many little tucked away restaurants in Winchester; hope they're surviving these hard times.

We've had their jerk chicken and it was above average. The ox tails are really good. And the veggies (some shredded spicey stuff?) is good. We always get a side order of plaintains too.

And yes, we're trying out lots of eateries too!

OMG, my friend's husband Richard is the cook there!
Friend Winchester is a much cheaper way of living then here in NOVA but keep in mind it is a blue-collar town, with old fashion values.
I lived there for about 5 years didn't really make too many lastings friends as our values were different. There aren't as many jobs/oppertunities to better yourself as there are here in the DMV.
Winchester is a nice senic area as well as Stephens City, Front Royal(Hell Town) but NOT a place to live in my opinion by any means.
NOVA believe it or not is worth the price!
