We do have Weds. off here in Stafford, but I know there were numerous families who left early for the holiday, my oldest said there were quite a few in his classes that were not coming tomorrow. It just seems like it is harder for the kids to focus this week being that it is a short week. There are alot of people who are traveling and they don't hesitate to pull their kids out of school in order to spend more time with family.

I do like the idea of the whole week off, call it a combo of fall break and Thanksgiving, of course where we moved from, school started the 2nd week of August, so by this time they are more than ready for a small break. It will be interesting to see if Stafford does anything like this next year, since they are proposing starting school in August next year.

You folks in Loudoun might want to remember this little incident next time your supervisor or school board member is up for reelection.

I like it, too. Gives the parents who need to travel a chance to hit the road before the holiday traffic builds up--and if working parents take the week off it also gives them a chance to hit the grocery stores before the holiday traffic builds up.

Maybe if parents were off that week then the grocery stores could actually be closed on Thanksgiving or close at noon. I knew Walmart was open but back in NM our other grocery store was closed on Thanksgiving to allow employees to spend the day with their families. Yesterday when I was out doing my shopping I found out that both Shoppers and Giant are open on Thanksgiving. I know I am telling my age here but I remember when everything shut down for the holiday except for the Stop and Shops.

I'm a teacher, so part of me hates to open this can of worms, but I have to wonder if anybody is questioning the fact that the school employees will be working two fewer days but will still get paid for them. The days off remain and the board won't be adding them back into the calendar. Am I correct in understanding that situation as it stands now? Let me know if I'm wrong. I don't think that would float at all with the FCPS board or community. Had we been furloughed and the Fairfax SB had reinstated the two days of pay, I would think it would only be fair and appropriate to work those two contract days.
