We rank 2nd in high tech jobs, ahead of the Silcon Valley and Austin!
TechAmerica Foundation published "The Definitive Analysis of the High-Technology Industry in the Nation" on December 7. The DC metro area is listed second for number of high tech jobs in 2010.
The report examined high-tech employment, wages, establishments, payroll and employment concentration in 60 of the nation’s largest metropolitan areas. NYC ranked took the #1 spot this year.
In a state-by-state analysis, Virginia was given the top ranking for concentration of tech workers (95 high tech workers per 1,000 private sector workers). When it comes to the number of tech works in the entire state, however, we took fifth place behind California, Texas, New York, and Florida.

Ooops, I just realized I messed up the thread title. On the state-by-state comparison we aren't ahead of CA and TX. The report says in the metro comparison we're ahead of Silicon Valley and Austin. Big difference. Sorry for the mistake.

I take it that the IT dept of any business whatever their actual business might be counts as a high tech job?
Thats the only way NYC would rank number 1 in such a category.
