In my opinion this is a no brainer. NoVa. Of course places like Newark and shows like Jersey Shore, Girls or whatever it is makes it easy to not like Jersey. There are some nice places in Jersey though. I have numerous friends in Jersey and most would love to leave there. From many of the places I've seen I always wanted to leave also. Not that NoVa is perfect but depending on where you are it is much nicer. Live in or around Haymarket you can see the mountains and within a short drive you're driving around some beautiful mts. The traffic is bad here in NoVa but it's no cakewalk in Jersey either. We're very close to DC which compared to NYC is a much easier city to navigate and much cleaner.

There are so many things to consider. Where are the jobs? What would your housing budget be? What kind of housing? Commute perameters? The ages for the children -- public, private or home-school? How did you decide between those two areas? You didn't give anywhere near enough information for people to give advice.

I've lived in both and would say NOVA hands down. The only real negative in NOVA is being landlocked in summer months but in some NJ areas the commute to the Shore on a Friday is impossible anyway.
In my opinion, the people in NOVA are a nicer mix than those in NJ. Like-minded people aas I like to say. Most came to NOVA for a good reason, career, family, etc. NJ seems to be full of people that are lifers, sometimes bitter about it. NOVA is a great cross section of people from all of the country and world. NJ cost of living (especially taxes) are brutal.
Just my two cents.

Let's put it this way: I know TONS of transplants from NJ to NoVA; but very few in the opposite direction.

OTOH, I know a lot of people who moved here from NJ who miss it. I think both places have a lot of appeal in different ways. It's more of a personality thing. I can't think of the right way to explain it but some people feel they fit in better in NJ and some feel they fit in better here. Maybe the best idea is to visit both places and see how it feels to them. Also, NJ is clser to the ocean, which is important to many people.

Personally, I prefer Nova (that's why I live here). But they might like the same things I do. Tell us a little more about them. Where is the job? What do they like to do for fun? What attracted them to NJ and Nova in the first place?

I was thinking the same thing. The question is too open ended, and we don't know anything about the people to guage what they might or might not like.

I was trying not to be too negative towards NJ but you have too admit. The show Jersey Shore or Jersey Girls is not helping the states image. I only saw the show once and I wanted to gut punch everyone on the show.

Those are New Yorkers.....the long island kind.....90% of the state wants to dump them in the ocean...
