We are still in Michigan and projecting to move to NOVA in the summer. My son is in the process of getting his drivers license but will not be finished by the summer. Michigan now has a very intense level system and it takes around a full year to get a license. Does Virginia have a similar system for new drivers? I am wondering if the parts he will have completed will transfer? Also, how much driving do your teens actually do with your public transportation etc.? Of course here in the Motor City we are practically born driving, but I wonder if it is different in Virginia? Thanks!

I can't answer the first few questions, but your teen will absolutely want/need to drive in Virginia. NoVA is a VERY car centric area. The only time I take public transportation is if I'm going downtown (DC) and don't want to pay for parking/parking isn't readily available.
