HI, I was hoping someone on these boards might have some insight into the FCPS lottery system for a couple of local elementary schools.

Anyone who knows me here is aware that we are HOPING to move to TX by next school year, but must prepare for the possibility we might still be here in Reston. However, we are stuck in one of the half-day kindergarten districts in Reston, which puts us at a financial disadvantage to the families in the full-day districts. I work PT and was really hoping our daycare costs would be drastically reduced (and possibly even cut entirely) when my daughter reached kindergarten.

With all that said, I have recently learned about the 2 public schools in Reston that offer admission through a lottery system.
1) Lake Anne Elementary for the Spanish Language immersion program
2) Hunters Woods Elementary for the Arts and Science magnet program
We had been considering St. Joe's in Herndon as an option, since the money would be a wash between me upping my hours and their tuition (which is fairly low, even for those of us who are non-Catholics), but I much prefer the option of a public school with a full-day kindergarten.

Does anyone have any insight on these two programs? I already put in our name for the immersion program, but they don't tell you until June (yuck) and will likely just send in an application anyway for the magnet program just for good measure. At least they let you know in April, and there is no fee to apply - I won't be out any money.

Thanks for any advice/info you can offer. I may still apply to St. Joe's, too - our neighbor teaches there, and I already know one of her friends from her center would be there with her.

In the immortal words of Dubya, "this is HAARD!"
