Hi everyone!

I am moving to Woodbridge next week and had planned to call about my utilities... but it looks like I have a choice of electric companies?!? I have never lived anywhere where this is true! I believe my address is in Prince William County...

Can someone tell me if it's indeed true that I have to choose a company, and if so... any recommendations? Everything in the home is electric powered, and it's 1200 sq ft. I'll be using the fireplace too though, which should help some.

Thanks in advance!

Dominion VA is the electric company. I have not heard about choices. I know some areas of the country have programs in which you can choose the source of electricity but the distribution is controlled by another company. Is that what you are talking about? Can you provide a link that discusses various options?

And yes, if you are moving to a Woodbridge address, you do live in Prince William County.

Michael

I have NOVEC but I didn't get a choice. I don't think you do get a choice, you just have to go with whichever company services that neighborhood.

Edited to add: I live in Woodbridge.

You could be in NOVEC territory. Having been both a Dominion and a NOVEC customer, I much prefer NOVEC.

To clarify, after seeing ChristineVA's post: I did not have a choice. I meant that I was a Dominion customer at a previous address in Fairfax County, but now I'm in a part of Loudoun serviced by NOVEC.

My mistake. I didn't realize that some of Woodbridge is in NOVEC territory. I live in Lake Ridge, and my address is served by Dominion. So, your electric company may vary depending on the exact location. The agent you're working with can help you determine the correct company to contact to set up service.

We were first told NOVEC serviced our home (by our realtor via the listing agent). When we contacted them to initiate service, they informed us they didn't service our home that Dominion was our electric company.

I think they were trying to communicate that there are two companies that serve the area but I don't think you get to choose who it is.

I hope it is Dominion. They can set up your electric and then they can help you set up everything else as well. Unfortunately, I called them last when I was getting everything turned on. Welcome to Woodbridge.
