I'm looking for an electronics supply store in the DC metro area (I live in Alexandria) that sells specialty electronics components - specifically, I have two projects in progress and I need some parts. I can buy online, but I'm impatient and would like to purchase locally if possible.

They may view it as a strange request, but Conrad-Johnson (high end manufacturer of tube electronics) is located in Merrifield area (probably within walking distance of Dunn Loring Metro stop):

Probably could also look in phone book for general electronics repair shops and see if they will sell you parts you need.

I haven't been to this place, but because I recalled that there are (or used to be) such stores on General Washington Dr (close to Edsall Rd, Marlos), I just searched and found

Try Radioshack. Most sell the normal consumer electronics, but there are a few that sell actual components. I have one near me, but it's a little far from Alexandria. I'd call them to see if they carry the parts you need.

There are Grainger branches located in Chantilly, Falls Church and Springfield.
I'm not sure if it's just a warehouse or if they have a parts counter, but they should carry everything under the sun that you'd need.

Most Radio Shacks still have a few drawers in the back with electrical components.

Also, There's a huge computer electronics supplier in Lotte on 3250 Old Lee Highway. Yes, Lotte is a Korean Supermarket but they have several storefronts within the store and the computer supply/fix shop is one. Make time for lunch.
You'll find that the majority of regular City-Data posters are retirement age and still have their Land Lines so computers just aren't in their wheelhouse
