Default Cable/Internet: Cox v. Verizon?

Hello, all!

This is slightly off-topic, but I'm moving to Falls Church and am trying to set up my phone/cable/internet service. Verizon's bundle is about $30 a month more expensive than Cox, and I'm trying to decide if it's at all worth it. I've grown to hate Comcast with a passion and definitely appreciate the benefit of good service. Does anyone have experiences with either of these companies?

Well I loved Comcast when in Montgomery County, MD and wish I had it here in the suburbs of Albuquerque instead of some local cable company which doesn't have the same level of service or channels etc etc.

My sister is in Fairfax and they have Cox but she has had issues with their tech support too -- she probably knows more than they do. :-)

I'm not sure which service I will use once I'm back in the area.

I believe Verizon partners with DirecTV so you might want to make sure that it would work in your new location. We had initially signed up with Cox for high speed internet and phone only, but when we learned we couldn't get a signal from DirecTV in our new home unless the dish was installed in the front of our house (which of course is against HOA rules and is an eye sore), we ended up getting the Cox bundle. While the service has worked fine, customer service when you call is hit or miss.

If Verizon FIOS is available, I think its worth it, but I never looked at its bundled cost.

Of course, they do have to come to your house and install the backup power unit and drill a few holes.

I've had Cox since they got to Fairfax, and they've had some ups and downs, but overall I couldn't complain very much. The product is good and varied, and while the service may not always be 100% timely, they are good, helpful, and friendly once they get to you...

I currently have FiOS internet and Directtv and from my experiences so far from both services, it's definitely worth it. The thing I would research is installation.

If you can get FiOS, go with Verizon. Otherwise, you are paying way too much for super-slow DSL. In that case, definitely go with Cox. I have their internet service and its not bad at all. 5mbs up, 2 mbs down...far more powerful and faster than regular DSL.

If it is verizon FIOS definitely go with it. The internet speed is the best you can get, and I've been very happy with my TV package (I have the HD upgrade)

one other thing... Cox was totally unprepared for the verizon competition. I had cox before and I gave them an opportunity to at least present a competitive match to what verizon was offering me. They couldn't even come close, so I switched.

I live in Falls Church and have Cox high speed internet. I got a 3-month promotional offer for $19.99 and now I am paying $41.99 for the internet. I have Dish so don't want cable. If you take the bundle phone/cable/internet you might get a good deal. Cox service is excellent so far. I am waiting for Verizon Vios to come to our area. I will switch to Verizon then.

Hope it helps.
