Fairfax County: Grayer and More Diverse, According To Census - Vienna, VA Patch

Fairfax county is increasingly begin to resemble the Silicon Valley (lots of Asians with no particular sub-group dominating) and a comparable Hispanic population (though the Hispanics in Fairfax County generally aren't Mexicans as they are in Santa Clara County, CA). The black population in Fairfax County has not really increased as a proportion of the population in the past twenty years.

Meanwhile, Montgomery County, MD is beginning to resemble Queens, NY. The county is now a minority-majority county, with Latinos being the largest minority (at 17%). Blacks are 16% and Asians are 14%. Slightly over 3% are multi-racial. Around 25% of Montgomery County blacks are foreign-born (mainly in Africa, on contrast to the Carribeans in Queens), and around 20% of the non-Hispanic white population is Jewish.

yeah, in many other ways we not nearly diverse enough. For example, how can we reduce the number of Vtech grads in the area?

If Korean people can make good Japanese food, why can't Salvadoran people make good Mexican food? Or maybe they can, but not here?

The raw census data indicate the increased Asian and Hispanic populations in Fairfax County. Yet, where did you draw your comparisons to to Silicon Valley California and Queens New York?

My personal experience with Silicon Valley tells me that there are far more Asian Indians in Santa Clara County California than in Fairfax County Virginia. Moreover the overall Asian population in Santa Clara constitutes a much higher fraction in Santa Clara than in Fairfax.

Your comparison between Montgomery County and Queens also puzzles me. Where did you get the numbers for the Jewish population? The census report you cited does not mention the Jewish population at all.

I'm sure a Japanese person who'd grown up eating authentic Japanese cuisine would question the quality of Japanese food made by Koreans. As to the Salvadorean question I'm not sure why they can't other than the fact they probably haven't been exposed to really great Mexican cuisine.

The number of VT grads in the area is essentially the only thing that keeps me sane living up here.

No kidding! I am sick to death of hearing about race. The WaPo, and most liberals, think it's the only thing that we should be concerned about. Sheeze.
