Island House isn't good. A lot of calls for police services there. It looks halfway decent during the day but is very deceiving. A lot of section 8 and some gang issues.

Crime stats in PWC are very deceiving. Most are very low as a whole. This is due to the large influx of high priced homes and government workers. However, there are some very bad neighborhoods that you should look out for. Some good areas to stick with (old faithfuls i call em )- Gainesville, Bristow, Nokesville, Montclair, Lake Ridge.

I knew a bunch of people who lived there in the 80's, I moved from that area to Lake Ridge during that time. I haven't heard many bad things, the police station is across the street which is usually a good thing. They have newer houses farther down the road toward Leesylvania Park. Anything off Indus Dr/Jennings St/Laconia Circle was built in the late 70's/early 80's. Seems like a pretty quiet community. Plus Leesylvania is right down the road!!

Default I'm in Lake Ridge 22192

I come from a military family, both my parents were officers in the Army. When I was born in 1990 in Fort Gordon, Georgia, my mom got out to take care of my sister and myself. My dad was then sent to California, Germany and then here to Woodbridge. I've lived here the passed 9 years (he retired two years ago, so they're waiting for my little sister to graduate high school before they move back home to Kentucky.) I went to Elementary School, Middle School and graduated High School here. The schools I went to were very focused on the success of their students and provided a very safe and overall excellent environment.

I have noticed many new developments coming up (though that has significantly slowed down due to the real estate crash.) The new houses bring a sense of wealth and security to the area.

My soon-to-be Brother-in-law is a Prince William County police officer so I get to hear stories of the town crazies or stupid stuff people were caught doing, but all-in-all, Lake Ridge is very quiet, very pleasant.

Most of the unrest will stay toward Rt. 1, but the PWC police (seeing as how there are about 500 officers in the force) do a great job.

As far as someone's comment about illegals- PWC instituted a new policy allowing for them to check legality in suspicious persons if they are stopped for a different infraction. This has caused many foreclosures in homes and significant drop in numbers of illegals in the area. Many have left for neighboring states/counties (Fairfax was lucky enough to pick up a good handful.)

Maybe to help solidify your decision: I'm a well-mannered, educated, 18 year old man who has had a few run-ins with the law. If the police are picking on a guy who likes to throw a few brews back while fishing off a dock and no intention to drive, you know there's nothing else they could be doing.

I don't know about Dale City much, I've heard a few stories... But Lake Ridge is actually very nice. I would suggest, if you're looking to spend near $1mil, Greatbridge Rd (formerly Asdee) next to Old Hickory Golf Course. I have a few friends around there, the houses are fantastic and the development is gorgeous, and that's a lot coming from a guy who prefers an ATV, a rifle and some woods.

Hi,
We live the Woodbridge-East of 95. I grew up in Fairfax County and have lived in several cities in the northeast and one abroad. From my experience, the people here are quiet, hard working. Don't make the assumption that the Mexican immigrants are "illegal" - how would you know that? That is a strange thing people do. From looking at a person you can see they are foreign born but how would you know if they are here legally or not? Just a thought...

Culturally, Americans in the 'burbs don't really congregate outside in groups..people from many other cultures do...so when white Americans see lots of people outside, walking around- they think "oh no- bad neighborhood."

Honestly, in this case- this is absolutely false.

I have lived in more high crime areas in New York city and this area does not compare in the least bit. You are simply seeing many family men waiting for low paid work, many mothers with kids, and people walking to and fro.

The design of PWC is really unfortunate because there are no places for people to have meaningful contact with their neighbors beyond driving by, competing for space on the road, or waiting in line in the grocery store silently fuming. This is sad because the design of the burbs keep everyone separated by class...the poorer neighborhood is always considered "the bad part."

The worst thing that can be said for Woodbridge is that it's kind of boring, sterile, its heart and soul being Potomac Mills Malls. Not the crime or the men waiting for work on Rte 1.

A truly high crime neighborhood (as far as I know) is where people walk around NOT walking nor desiring too....those guys are supporting families...big difference. They are willing to wait patiently for low paid, something demeaning jobs, outside-rain, snow or shine.

I'm not supporting open borders as policy (even though our gov't obviously does) but if you get to know these people - your neighbors- you will learn that these rumors and stereotypes are really ridiculous.

blessedinva - you are absolutely correct! in the really wealthy you never see people walking around, chatting with neighbors or anything - so sad really

And if I do see a lot of men hanging around just talking - it worries me - just ingrained in my culture - in my family men are always doing something - fixing the house, mowing the lawn, doing jobs around the house .....no one is ever just hanging out doing nothing

The county had a huge problem with the "migrant workers" (also known as illegal immigrants) hanging out at the 7-11's on Rt.1. Some of them would make lewd comments to woman as they went into the store. Beyond that they would just throw trash all over the place. Go in the woods behind the Longview 7-11, it's a disaster. They also go the bathroom (both 1 and 2) in the woods as well. Those woods are owned by the church, which makes it even worse. Let's not be so naive that we think all people here illegally are nice, hard working people.
