So I think there is a family of skunks that live either: a. under my porch or b. in the wooded area where the street ends! This smell happens almost every other night, and it's so bad that it awakens us right out of our sleep.

Our neighbors have been smelling it too, so it's not just me. It really is powerful. I see two stray cats always walking around at night, and I'm not sure if they scare the skunks or something, and then they spray.

I'm in the Fairmont neighborhood, and it seems reasonable that a skunk family would live where the Fairmont retirement home (and Emeritus) is. There is some dense overgrowth where those buildings are.

Is there anything we can do about the constant stench? It smells so bad, my car stinks when I get into it. And the reason why I don't think they're living under my porch is because the smell is strong all the way up the road. Is it possible to call someone to investigate?

I wish Billy the Exterminator was up here instead! Thanks for all advice.

I know they smell, but do people really seek out to kill them?

I don't want to kill them, just relocate them from whatever area they are in, which is in very close proximity to houses It was so bad one night that I woke up nauseated and started vomiting not long after. It's real bad!

Here's the link for Animal Control in Manassas.

Manassas, VA - Official Site - Animal Control

The link says they respond to nuisance animals and to wildlife complaints so they may be able to help you.

Some Animal Control depts do not handle wild animals like skunks, raccoons, possums, etc. You might want to contact Critter Control too. Good luck!

Are you sure they are skunks and not fox? Fox spray too and they can get quite stinky. Good luck getting rid of them.

Aren't skunk and fox smells pretty distinguishable?

I think it's pretty hard to mistake a skunk smell.

A skunk smell will tend to linger alot longer than the fox smell although they do smell quite similar.
