Hi all! I am new to the NOVA forums. My family and I are relocating to take an assignment at the Pentagon this summer.

I am working with a realtor on finding rental properties and pretty much am sold on either Reston or Burke. Of course schools are my top priority. My son has been private schooled up to now and by looking at the costs, he is going to be headed to public school when we move.

I have a 6 yr old and am going to need extremely reliable before and after school care. Aside from the local YMCA where else should I be looking into?

Thanks for any input.

Look into Fairfax County's School Age Child Care Program (SACC). But there can be a wait list, so good luck. There are also several day cares that drop off and pick up kids from their schools. While reviewing day cares, I found the VA Dept of Services' Day CareViolations site helpful.

Kutra- Thanks! I did call on the SACC. The lady said it depended on which school we were intersted in how long the wait list is. So I am thinking it is a safe assumption that if I like the school then there's probably a year wait. I will check out the daycare violations site as well. Many thanks!

If you end up in Burke, Kiddie Country picks kids up from certain elementary schools in the area, and it has a great reputation. Kiddie Country - Developmental Learning Center in Burke, Virginia - Preschool - Nursery - Children - School

Good luck!

Beth, ideally that is where we would like to be! Thanks for the recommendation.

The elementary school near me has several daycare center vans that pick up and drop off. I wonder if the school staff is allowed to tell you which ones do for their school? If not, find out who some of the PTA parents are and contact them. They might also know of some parents who provide in-home care.
