There is one K-8 public school in the City of Alexandria:
ACPS: Jefferson-Houston School
I think it has a somewhat troubled history and making it a K-8 school (unusual for this area) may be part of an effort to strengthen its appeal to local residents. Other posters who live in Alexandria may know more.

Out of curiosity, what is the appeal of a k-8 school. I understand the part of growing up with friends and having the same counselors, etc. But is there anything else that I am missing?

2 options do exist in Prince William County Schools:
Manassas: Pennington School
Woodbridge: Porter School
Both are public K-8 schools. Were you looking for a different county?
