Question Rappahannock County

Hello everybody,

I am so glad that I have found this forum. I´ve been searching forever...

My family and I will be relocating from... (get this)... Germany/Europe to Rappahannock County before the year is over. We´ll be moving in with my in-laws for starters, but as we are waiting for the "go" from the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt/Germany, I don´t want to get on their nerves by asking them a whole lot of questions. And so I was wondering if there are people here from the area that can tell me a little about what we are getting ourselves into.

I love country life as we´ve been living in the city for almost 38 years, but what I´ve read on the local homepages is really positive. It would be great if there were people here that could give me more "insider info" on the area.

Greetings from wayyy over the big pond
Sabine

I don't live there, but Rappahannock County is about as nice as it gets. I would move there myself except my job is in D.C. Good luck.

Re: Rappahannock County. I think everyone who has traveled through there will give positive feedback, but you were prob looking for a few specifics. The main thing is, the county government is committed to preserving the scenic beauty and agricultural economy. The minimum lot size is 25 acres (10 hectares) though many lots are 50 ac. People are spread out enough that they don't bother each other. The beautiful Shenandoah National Park dominates the western part of the county, taking in the high mountain peaks and abundant trout-fishing streams. It's not Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon but it's very nice. The county seat, Washington (called "little Washington" to avoid confusion w/ Washington D.C. - not that anyone would ever confuse the two) has a gourmet restaurant that most critics agree is the best in Virginia. HAve never dined there, it's a fixed-price menu that runs about $150 - $250+ per person, depending on wine. The First Lady recently had her birthday (60th?) dinner there with her friends. Wonder who picked-up the tab on that one? Anyway, her conservative friends were likely misplaced, as I said previous, the folks there are very progressive in their attitudes, not hell-bent on destroying the place as fast as they can. That's my take.
