I got a ticket for reckless driving on GW parkway(74MPH over 40 MPH). The corp asked me to come to Alexendria District counrt on 4/5. I understand it is serious violation and can cost me $2500 in fines, suspension etc.

I talked to some lawyers their fee is $750-$1200. My case is simple, I am from Maryland and have a clean 5 years driving record. Do I need lawyer or I can just plead guilty and reckless driving charges taken off.

Also, I am not sure what point means can the judge give me some points too in addition to fine? What are these points and I know insurance companies have their own points.

Interested to hear from someone who had faced same violation or any advice?

There's an official reckless driving thread on here. Search it out and you may find the answer. The moderator should probably move this over there anyway.

I know that is well above +20mph. I wonder if I should take lawyer. I am only hoping for a lenient judge. I have otherwise clean record. Seems part of GW is 40 MPH.

It goes as low as 25. Guessing though you got snagged somewhere between National Airport and Old Town?

Unless something has changed, tickets written by the U.S. Park Police go through the U.S. Magistrates Court in Alexandria (part of the Federal Court system)....not Alexandria General District Court (City Court).

In my experience, those U.S. Magistrates are NOT known for leniency!

PS: I believe the highest speed limit anywhere on the GWP is 50...

Correction - Ticket states 74MPH/40MPH, so it is 74MPH. It wasn't 114 MPH.
