Pentagoner, I agree with some of the posters above. Alexandria and Arlington are a great place to start your search. I grew up in Burke (about 12 miles from DC), VA and I definitely recommend it as well...although the closest metro subway station can be a 20 minute drive to in the morning rush. It really depends on what type of home you are looking for and how much you are willing to go upwards in price. Best of luck in your move....as a Army brat and a wife of a former Army officer, I know the adventure that awaits you :-)

City-Data Terms of Service:

Real Estate Agents and other businesses will not advertise their services nor solicit business in their posts. Create a free business profile by going to http://www.city-data.com/profiles/add and fill out your forum profile instead. Do not include links to your websites, MLS listings, etc. in your posts. Do not try to push the envelope by attempting to hide your intentions. Do not solicit business by PMs. Show your knowledge about the area and help people and you will get leads naturally. Real estate agents should join the usergroup for them here: http://www.city-data.com/forum/profi...editusergroups. It will set your user title and add an icon next to your name, so you will get free advertising with your posts.

Do not post the same message to multiple forums, this is cross-posting and multiple posts will be removed.

No problem...REA's are an important resource in C-D due to their specialized, though also usually localized, knowledge and expertise. It's just good to remember which hat you've got on when replying to a thread...some are considered a fashion faux pas.... :-)

Found an area in Alexandria that we are in LOVE with - renting for a few months, but hoping to stick around here for a while Thanks everyone!

might want to check out Jefferson Manor in Alexandria also. Older duplexes in dog-friendly, kid-friendly neighborhood. Walking distance to metro too.
