I have three days to cancel and am kind of second guessing my decision. My complaints about DISH is that it goes out because of weather, doesn't record our shows half the time, we've been through several receivers in the last few years due to them just dying....
Well if your DISH went out in typical bad weather your system had an issue. Thunderstorm is one thing but not in regular rain, and VA doesn't get real snowstorms. Either way the FiOS user interface is terrible compared to DISH's. But better than DirecTV's. The service itself is good. As long as your getting a good monthly deal I wouldn't worry about it.

I never had problems with my satellite going out until the last few years. DISH installed it on our fence instead of our roof even after we ASKED them to put it on the roof (the guys never have a long enough ladder). Then the thing went out CONSTANTLY. Had them come back and put it on the roof (they wanted to charge us for this) but I finally got them to waive it. Then it still never did SUPER well and we couldn't get most of our HD channels. Had them come back out again to readjust it. Well....that helped....a little. Then they had to come and readjust it because they were changing their satellites or something....well, that only made things worse.

VA may not get 'real' snowstorms....but they get ice. The last one we had....darn thing wouldn't get reception because the ice or snow or something was built up on it....the thing is on the roof so it's not like I could just go clear it off.

At any rate - the fact that it went out again a few times over the weekend....was just annoying. When we lived on the other side of Manassas, it could rain cats and dogs and it was fine...then we moved and for 7 years have had intermittent problems. DISH has had to come out on average once a year....and then the issue still isn't fixed....and we have had to send our DVR back about 5 times for dying - which leaves us for a few days at a time with no TV. Well....I hated to switch....but now hopefully I'll be happier. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It's all a waste of precious money, paytv! Stop paying! Cut the cord! Because you can get better tv for free! Yes, that's right; it's been kept secret on purpose ... they've got too much to lose, billions. It's the free ota (over-the-air) antenna tv and it's in HD ... and I'm watching it on an OLD analog tv! Stop throwing your money away. It's stupid to pay when you actually get better tv (DTV+HD) for free because the signal is uncompressed as opposed to the compressed (fuzzy) signal those crooks (middlemen) serve up.
