We're moving to the Springfield area and looking for a pool/tennis/gym type club. Lifetime in Fairfax looks awesome online but would like some real feedback. Any other gyms like that in the area?? How pricey is it for a family membership. Thanks!

I personally don't go there but I know several people from my moms club who belong, and they all seem to like it. I've been inside and it looks very nice and is often quite busy.

I belong to Lifetime Fitness--there are three in NoVa; Fairfax, Centreville, and Ashburn (they call it Loudoun County). The Fairfax one is by far the lowest quality and smallest facility of the three. A major part of the reason is that Lifetime usually builds their own gyms, but the Fairfax one was shoehorned in to an existing space. Decades ago it was originally a Track Auto store. It has gone through many iterations since.

That said, it's miles better than any of those 24 hour fitness places, and I'm not sure there's anything else better in the area. It's just the least great of the three Lifetime has in the area.

We paid a couple hundred to join and pay $169/month for four of us. That's based on primary use of a Platinum Club (LoCo) Centreville is a Gold Club, I think Fairfax is a Bronze Club. That allegedly speaks to the "luxury" and amenities each club offers. We've been very happy there and they have a lot of fun activities for kids.

Golds Gym in Fairfax Station is a 2 yr old gym with all the latest equipment and good classes.

All I know about the Fairfax Lifetime is a that a little kid drowned in their pool.

My husband would like to join the Ashburn one but we find the fees high. SInce Ashburn is platinum we would be paying a lot. We have been going to LA Fitness in Dulles and only pay $400 a year for BOTH of us. Can't beat $20 a month.

Used to belong to Fairfax LF. Loved the place itself, did not love the traffic battle it took to get there. I live off Rt. 50, so I had to head down Pickett to get there. Made after-work workouts near impossible.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LTF. I have used both Centreville & Fairfax over the past 8 years I've been a member. Yes, I prefer Centreville but due to location used Fairfax for 3 years on a regular basis. Worth every cent to pay extra. I have never had to wait for cardio equipment. Now free weights in Fairfax is a different story b/c it's on the smaller size but they still have everything I need & more. If you plan to use the steam room, pool or jacuzzi it really makes it worth the extra cost over the other basic gyms.

And btw, about the drowning...it was in Centreville in 2007 when a father wasn't paying attention to where his 5 year old was. He noticed she was missing when the pool was cleared on break & she didn't get out with her older brother. If he wasn't relaxing in the jacuzzi & was in the pool or at least near the pool, he likely would've noticed something was wrong before she was lying lifeless on the bottom of the pool =( Very sad.

I used to go to the Lifetime in Fairfax when my kids were little - they really enjoyed going into the childcare area which was a big bonus for me.

Sorry did not realize the child died at the Centerville pool not the Fairfax one - I guess they dont have any lifeguards. Even though I truly believe it is the Father's fault his child died.
