Hey guys. Very interested in a house in the Bonnie Brae district. Saw the test scores were pretty so-so last year, particularly for 5th graders. Does anyone have kids that go here, any thoughts or opinions on this school? Any concerns you would have in putting your kid here? Thanks for your input!

Our oldest is not in school yet, but that is our local elementary school so I've talked to a lot of parents about it. Most parents raved about the teachers and administration. The one downside that I see (and it is definitely not a concern for many) is that it's a very large school. You have 4-5 classes per grade with an average of 25 students per class.

We're in that elementary district too - my oldest is only 3, but I've done quit a bit of research too. from what I've heard, it's a great grade school. Is 100 kids a grade big for a school around here? 25 years ago I went to elementary school with that many kids in po-dunk Lincoln, NE. Seems normal, but maybe not? It does appear that test scores are down from last year, not sure what that's all about. Last year when we were house hunting, it was one of the highest scoring schools in our zip code, now it's more in the middle. I've still heard nothing but good things from all my neighbors who have little ones currently going there.

I live in that school district - as many people here know, I am pretty picky about schools since I used to be a teacher. All my neighbors have nothing but good things to say about the school, and I'm planning to send my child there when he is old enough. I have looked at the test scores and I can't see any significant difference from previous years, and the demographics of the school haven't changed a bit. A few points means nothing. All schools jump around a little bit. Personally, I hope they don't spend too much time worrying about test scores - that is NOT a good thing for a school.

You guys rock, thanks for the opinions. I don't put as much stock on the test scores; if folks have nothing but good to say about the teachers and principal, I am more than OK. We're planning to visit the area more tomorrow and hope to talk to some potential neighbors as well.

Bonnie Brae will be getting an additional 50 students in Sept. from the boundary change due to the closing of Clifton Elementary. These students live in Fairfax Station and are currently assigned to Fairview.

My grandaughter attended Bonnie Brae a few years ago, and I have to say it was great then. Glad to hear it still is.
