My husband recently got a job as a firefighter in Prince George County, Maryland. We were thinking of maybe living in Va and he would commute. I was wondering what areas were safe, not too expensive, good areas to raise a family (we have 3 little kids). Probably no more then an hour out of Maryland. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Where in PG County specifically. It is not a small county.

There are plenty of safe, not too expensive places to raise a family in Prince Georges County: Bowie, Laurel, Beltsville, Upper Marlboro, University Park, etc. Might as well keep your commuting to a minimum.

Depending on where in the county he would be working, you should look at Anne Arundel County. Unless the job is in Oxon Hill or Clinton, the commute would be better from AA County than from anywhere in VA, I think.

I'd second the idea of living in Anne Arundel County or Calvert County (if he's stationed in the southern part of PG). Unfortunately, the Virginia areas that are reasonable commutes to PG County are probably going to be cost prohibitive on a firefighter salary, especially with three children.

Good luck and prayers for his safety.
