There are events and ceremonies for all of these. There is no wrong answer.

I've been to George's birthday party at Mount Vernon and a couple of Cinco de Mayo parties. The Cinco de Mayo parties have no meaning beyond an excuse to have margaritas. If we had a tradition of drinking mojitos to celebrate the Battle of Bull Run, then I'd be celebrating that every year too.

Let's start one! Although the drink of choice should be more Virginian. Tobacco-infused whiskey? A viognier? Sweet tea vodka (a little more SC than VA, but we don't have many distinctive drinks here)?

I've never been to GW's birthday, though, nor to a reenactment at Bull Run. I'm pretty sure I went to the battlefield with my parents or my elementary school, but all the battlefields blur together after a while. Besides, shouldn't we be calling it the Battle of Manassas :P

I haven't been to reenactment at Bull Run, but have been to the battlefield many times, and last year we made it to Gettysburg at the tail end of the battle aniversary.

Its just not as convenient as running to Chevy's.

I'd like to go to a reenactment of the Battle of Manassas. When are they? I never hear about them.

I have to admit that the shuttle buses rule it out for me, but here's the site

Buy Tickets - Historic Civil War Re-enactment

I used to do Cinco de Mayo every year. Not any of the others. I always forget the date of the battle other than to remember that it's in July. Same as confusing which days the war started and ended in April.

At the risk of being OT, here's another popular holiday that's on the rise:

Day Of The Dead Day - Day Of The Dead in Mexico - Dia de los Muertos

Hey, I'm up for starting something like this. Let's do it! All we have to do is come up with the drink.

July 21 tends to be a hot time of year, so something light like the tea drink sounds good to me. Or maybe a drink with the word "bull" in it, so you can take bull shots to celebrate? Is there any liquor with the word bull in it? We also need something "Bull Run" ish to do or say when we take out bull shots. Was there a catchy saying connected to the event?

Although I agree that Manassas is the better name, Bull Run's catchier--so we'd have the better chance to getting a trend started using Bull Run. Wrong reason, I know.... but probably true.
