on this forum I tend to type quickly, spell intuitively, and not edit

When you pay me to edit my posts, you can quibble over my spelling

It's just me, but I don't do things well or correctly just because I get paid to do so. I don't parent, because I get paid, I don't say hello to my neighbors because I get paid. I don't respond to questions (both online and in person) with some thought given to them because I get paid. I don't try to be humorous because I get paid.

For me, this all falls in the category of general courtesy. I do it because it's respectful to others and to myself, to my own sense of doing things well in general.

Sure, we can all make occasional mistakes. I probably misspelled Loudoun a few times in the past. But, purely hypothetically speaking (), if I were to get into a conversation with someone about Annandale and another person from there points out that it's not spelled "Annanfail," I am going to acknowledge it and make an attempt to spell correctly, no matter what I think of that person. For ME, to do otherwise would be discourteous.

But that's just how I roll, as the kids say. YMMV.

Or Botetourt or Poquoson. If you had only HEARD these names spoken as they are pronounced, you would never imagine the correct spelling. And we are becoming more and more dependent upon what we hear, rather than what we see. Leads to a lot of errors.

The Annandale analogue for the Loudoun - Loudon misspelling would be Anandale, or Annanndale, or Annandail, not Annanfail. A missing letter is not as worthy of ire as a misspelling that creates an insulting pun. The whole argument is trite, IMO.

You mean like "LoudoUn"?

Sorry. I didn't know you were the arbiter of which mispelling was more worthy of non-trite discussion.

I think the rest of my point still stands. The "Annanfail" bit was just a gentle, mildly humorous (at least to me) ribbing.

Maybe its my age, but I cant take an internet message board as seriously as parenting, or even RL social interaction. I DO try to be polite and to avoid being needlessly argumentative, which I consider more important than editing my typos.

And I dont mind it.

Though might I quibble - LoudoUn IS the correct spelling - its just capitalizing the letter so many of us forget.

Ive spent too much time with canadians and their sense of humour, their sense of honour, etc, to really worry about extra u's, or absent u's all that much. I sometimes even switch between capitalization and capitalisation.

You don't say!

I think you are only a few years older than I am in physical age, certainly not enough to have a generational difference. Most of my close friends are in their 50's. I think they are older than you are.

If you want to blame Canadians for your insistence on mocking me even after I asked you not to, then I will accept the shift in blame and simply pile that on my existing low grade hatred of all things Canadian.

Sorry to drag up and old thread, but I have to say this is one of the funniest threads I have read on here in a while! haha! I taught myself how to spell Loudoun by just remembering its just a couple of "OU"s crammed between an L, a D, and an N.
