Hi all,

I'm going to be moving from NoVA to Charlotte, NC for my new job and would love to hear from you regarding the movers that you have used in the past and you would recommend or warn me to stay away from. Most importantly, I'm looking for movers that will not damage my furniture. I'll be moving ~1 br apartment's worth of stuff.

THANKS!

I have had two okay (small) moves with Original Moving & Storage but one VERY BAD experience with the same company. We literally sent the moving crew away when they gave us a quote that was $4K higher the day they showed up to move us...and no, I didn't misrepresent the size of our household or contents when getting the original quote.

I had an excellent experience with JK Moving. They bailed me out of the above situation. I called at 10:30am and they had packers at our house within a few hours and moved us the next day. The final bill was within $100 of the original quote that I had received a few weeks earlier. The estimator was pleasant and the moving crew was great. They even had two extra people show up in the afternoon when they realized it was going to take a little longer than expected. I don't recall having anything damaged.

You may want to check out the Sticky Thread on best local businesses. Maybe there are some recommended movers there.

I actually had some good experiences with JK Moving too. I am still (technically) in the middle of a move with them. They packed up most of my house and put it in storage (it will be delivered when I settle on the house I am buying). So I only have "half" of a review, but based on what I saw, they did a great job at packing, took care of my stuff, etc. It took them 4 hours (3 people) to pack up my whole house.

We used Beltway movers for our last move and they were great. Hiring them again to pack up our trailer for our move to Texas, they don't do long haul moves.

I have heard great things about JK but I called them twice over a 2 week period and never heard back from them.

When we moved to Charlotte we used Campbell Moving 703-435-2242 http://www.campbellmoving.com. We know the owners and they have done all of our moves.

We used Liberty Movers a couple of times several years ago, for a local move. They were pretty good.

We had an excellent experience with JK during our recent Mclean to Oakton move. Not one thing was broken, and the guys who moved it were incredible. Didn't take one break and were really professional. They are not the cheapest movers but we got the best feel from them when we were interviewing companies. GL!

JK Movers is a definite safe bet. I've had many referrals for them and my realtor always uses them. Very professional. Only downside, they are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. There is no risk in using them, IMO.

I used Beltway Movers and couldn't be more pleased. They were slightly cheaper than JK and worked very efficiently. They only took a 30 min lunch, which I bought for them and they loaded and unloaded a 4000sq ft home in 6 1/2 hrs!

Very professional and courteous!
