Could you rec a nice place for "date night away from the kids" dinner in the Vienna / Falls Church City / Fairfax -ish location? Preferably French, Italian, Spanish/tapas, steak house, etc.

I had wanted to try 2941 in Falls Church but Lordy their entrees fall between $31 and $39!! I could handle entrees between $15 and $28, to be reasonable.

Thanks for any recs.

"Bazin's on Church" in Vienna is a great place for a dinner. Delicious contemporary american food.

while I agree it is very expensive, do try 2941 for a special occasion. It is well worth it, especially if you do the tasting menu.

I've had very good meals at Bazin's; if you want something a bit less noisy, however, Cafe Renaissance in Vienna is also very good and in your price range (not as expensive as 2941).

Bazin's is a good choice. It's more like a very upscale happy hour scene though. Some call it vibe, some call it noise. Have never had a less than satisfactory meal there, though. Cafe Renaissance is more like dining. They recently added a "wine guy" who can be a bit pretentious, but like an internet ad, he goes away if you click Close, and the atmosphere and service are otherwise excellent and the food is typically very good. Plus you can always order a cafe renaissance after dinner, which -- since it involves a lot of fire in its tableside creation -- always adds a nice romantic touch. Sea Pearl on Strawberry Lane in Merrifield (across Gallows from the Silver Diner) is also quite nice for seafood. It's run by one of the four sisters of Four Sisters fame. Top notch ingredients, and they'll always do something interesting with them. While the views are nice, 2941 has never found itself in my view. The kitchen does produce some fine results, but they should maybe just get a whole new management team and take a fresh approach. As is, I don't find them worth what they charge.

Which is why we should NEVER get married. Look what it leads to.

Ah, what we won't do while scrimping and saving for the kids' education...
