Default americana? alt-country? indie music in Northern Virginia?

Any interesting eclectic types of music on the Virginia side of DC? Anything interesting like some indie bands, americana (old crow medicine show, etc.), or alt-country (jayhawks, etc.). Maybe some INDIE types of music?

Maybe even moreso out into the Shenandoah Valley? Winchester perhaps?

Does State Theater in Falls Church have some of those bands in their venues?

Maybe even Arlington?

Jammin' Java in Vienna and Birchmere in Del Ray section of Alexandria both have bluegrass/newgrass, alt & indie bands. On 88.5 FM, there's a show called Traditions with Mary Cliff and she gives a weekly run-down of all the local and nearly-local venues and bands playing that are doing blue/new, alt, celtic, etc. music. Bluegrass Country – Traditions with Mary Cliff

Maybe not as much indie as you want, but it's a place to start.

There is a monthly bluegrass jam at the Old Furniture Factory in Round Hill, and the annual Loudoun Bluegrass Festival in Leesburg.

There are some small clubs in Arlington that feature indie bands, like Iota.

Just recently learned that Old Crow Medicine Show is out of Harrisonburg, Virginia.

If there is stuff like that in NoVA as well...would be nothing short of amazing! What a great band.

You can find "jam band" festivals within driving distance. Are you from around here? If so, you may be aware that mostly you'll find these sort of concerts out toward the mountains, like in Shenandoah VA, in WV, or Western MD. There are a few of these festivals during the summer. For example, check this out for this coming Memorial Day weekend. It's in Cumberland MD, less than 3 hours drive from DC: DelFest

You can catch Old Crow Medicine Show at that festival. And Yonder Mountain String Band, another excellent band. And about a dozen others, maybe several you know if you follow that sort of music. String Cheese Incident is another similar band that used to appear around here, but I think they don't tour like they used to.
