It was a great pool weekend. My "job" is to organize activities for the pool and today was our picnic. We had a lot of RSVPs and it didn't rain! There wasn't even a chance. (That's the worst part about organizing activities at the pool...having to watch the weather.) The pool had a good crowd all weekend and membership is up a bit. Seems like there are a lot of younger families moving in.

What I find sad is the inside-the-Beltway community pools that are either gone or hanging on by a fingernail.

I remember going to some of them as a kid in the 50's & 60's. They were mobbed with kids back in the day. But, those kids are long gone, and their parents too old, dead or moved away. Their replacements, often immigrants, just don't seem to be into swimming.

Our main pool was the YMCA near 236 & Prince William Dr....I believe it's still there but abandoned. I have fond memories of my sister and I and our friends piling into mom's 1949 Pontiac and heading out TWO LANE Route 236 to the Y. And afterwards stopping at Fairdale (an old timey country store) across the street for penny candy.

LOL, I guess now we know why the swimmer was afraid to jump in.
