Even though it doesn't match the scenic downtowns you'll find in New England, I think that Vienna best combines the feel of small town America with a commuter friendly and family friendly central location in Fairfax County (though I'm clearly biased as a Vienna resident for almost 10 years!). For even more flavor, take a look at the Vienna Patch website and its coverage of last weekend's Viva Vienna fair on Church Street (especially the video of Vienna Elementary students cute as a button flash mob on Memorial Day). I'm not saying there aren't other charming areas in Northern Virginia such as Old Town Alexandria and Clifton, but Vienna is special...
Welcome to the board xlordjeff. I was getting tired of being one of the only Town of Vienna cheerleaders on here. I saw the Vienna elementary flash mob dance online - it was very cute. Too bad we missed it in person. We've been in Vienna exactly 10 1/2 years and still love it.

Good luck again!
Thanks so much for your feedback and well wishes. You provided some great resources! I am so appreciative of all of your feedback because I am still in Norfolk, VA finishing out my school year contract. I've made 3 trips up there so far, orginally scouring Arlington and Alexandria for a place. I looked at over 30 places with a Realtor who I felt tried too hard to "sell" places to me, that maybe weren't he right fit. We did get a recommendation from a friend of someone else in Tyson's Corner, so we will contact them. I am using this forum and all the kind folk's expertise here to map out a plan. It is so helpful, and since the first time I drove through, I felt like Vienna was home to me. I think its meant to be! Thank again for your help. I am going to look at the TH you suggested and maybe play around with our budget to see if we can make some nips and tucks in other areas. Thanks again

Thanks for helping me orient myself to the layout of the town. Your description plus michgh's beautiful photo tour of Vienna have been really helpful. Everyone on here is confirming that Vienna is really what I hoped and imagined- a safe, clean, family-friendly town! Thanks again!

[quote=nancy707;.It is a very family friendly town...not only do we have Viva Vienna but the ever popular Halloween Parade...4th of July fireworks, [/quote].

This sounds like exactly the type of place I want to be. Also, thanks for the information on the "meandering" downtown. It sounds somewhat quirky and charming. =)

Default Update

Thanks to all the great feedback on this forum, my husband is going to look at two townhomes tonight with a realtor. One is in Country Creek, and the other is in the Hampton subdivision (I believe.) Nancy, I think this is the area that you recommended b/t 66 and Nutley. From the map, it looks like it is behind the Pan Am shopping center. Again, I am so so so so greatful to all of you who gave feedback. You are a huge blessing to us, and I am looking forward to joining such a fine group of people living in Vienna.
