Where would you go?

I mean, what time would you leave and exactly what route would you take with the best views to make even traveling there a fun experience?

Once arriving in the mountains, where exactly would you go and what would you do to really have the best and most rewarding experience?

I used to know someone who was just amazing at this.

Could someone give me an incredible day trip itinerary to the mountains?

Thanks so much!

I'd go to Shenandoah National Park! My SO and I went to Elkins, WV a few years ago, and it was a letdown (albeit a letdown with gorgeous scenery).

Not sure whether do you like to hike or do you like to just spend most of the time on your car?

If you like hiking, I would recommend trying the Old Rag Mountain Hike! It's probably the best day hike you can get around DC area! I even had a close encounter with a black bear on the trail.

If you have a bit more time than a day trip. I would recommend going to Canaan Valley in WV and spend some time in the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area. It's the closest thing to Alaska you can get near DC! (in term of vegetation, not scenery)

I'd go to Bryce Resort (just came back from there actually). It's just a bit south on I-81, about 2 hours from DC. They have a lake for swimming and fishing, a golf course (and miniature golf course), a zip line, summer tubing, grass skiing and snowboarding and lots of hiking trails. I love it there. Very relaxing and beautiful.

Avoid National Parks on holiday weekends or during "peak week" in leaf season.
