Hi everyone! We kept our swim club membership in McLean for the summer but I need to find something local for next summer. The two that seem good are Hunter Mill and Fox Mill. Does anyone know what the wait list is like for these clubs?

P.S. Thanks for all the help in our house hunt. We absolutely love our little slice of heaven in Oakton!

You'd probably have to check with the clubs. Hunter Mill has an annual membership lease program, and Fox Mill Woods is actually running a memberhsip drive discount. $100 off the annual fee. Doesn't sound all that discouraging...

That is encouraging. I saw that Oakton Swim Club has crazy 9 year wait so I was bracing myself for that. I don't really need a competitive swim program as my kids just like to splash around at this point. I know it sounds crazy, but I would love a pool that has a snack bar that serves more than ice cream or has a small playground or sand box or something for my littlest guy. I'll email both clubs to get some more info.

If the Oakton club is closest to your house, you might consider getting on the waiting list now, even if you join another pool in the meantime. Sometimes spots open up sooner than the club officials had predicted, and when your kids are older they will probably want to be at the same pool as their neighbors and classmates.

Hunter Mill has a main pool with a diving area, a baby pool, tennis courts, ping pong table, and a small patio area where kids sometimes play ball games. There's no sandbox or playground, but it has a nice atmosphere where smaller kids can feel comfortable (and be easily seen by their parents).

It doesn't have a snack bar, but does sell ice cream and people routinely have pizza delivered there. I think there is also a grill you can use but am not 100% certain. The clubhouse with changing rooms/bathrooms were renovated last year and are very nice.

I second the advice to get on the wait list now for the pool you want most.

Oakton is probably the nicest but the $2400 bond is a bit steep. what is Fox Mill Woods like? it looks pretty from their pictures.
