Hello,

We are relocating to DC and are considering to enroll our child in the Children's House Montessori School in Arlington. It will be a two-year commitment. Does anyone have any experience with this preschool? Would like to hear about pros/cons about this school. I will also highly appreciate it if someone can tell me how to find a babysitter for this school's 5 week break in the winter and summer. Thank you very much.

By the way, we will temporarily live in Arlington for a couple of months and are considering to buy in Falls Church or Mclean. Will appreciate related suggestion as well.

I don't have personal experience with it, but when I was researching Arlington Montessori schools, this one kept coming up with enough red flags (particularly about the administrator) that I never bothered to consider it seriously. I would suggest that you join the DC Urban Moms mailing list, the archives and forums are a great resource for candid discussions of these issues. Hippo House (Arlington Montessori), Full Circle, and Chesterbrook are all good options, and I never heard anything negative about any of them during some pretty intensive research. Note that most require a 3-year commitment (i.e. a dedication to the Montessori philosophy, not just a prestigious sounding preschool).

Babysitters are always a challenge for these schools, but you can try networking with other parents (maybe make an arrangement to pay a SAHM or nanny share). Summers seem to be easier, with lots of summer camp options and many teachers looking for summer babysitting work. Good luck!

Montessori School of McLean and Brooksfield Montessori School, also in McLean, have good reputations. There also is Ridgemont Montessori in McLean, but I know very little about that school.
