Well I got the offer for a new job. I am very excited but scared as heck. My new employer is helping me move. It's not the thousands of dollars that a manager would get and the fact that I turned the offer down 2 weeks ago because there was no relocation assistance say's a little something about me. I got the offer yesterday and I am just waiting for the package. I will be working in Fredricksburg for a large software company. What I need is to know is where I should look for a place to live? I will be making about 50,000 per year, I know it is not a lot for the area but it gets me out of Arizona and near water again. I have contacted a relator who is looking at some rental properties for me. I will be doing all of this online. I have no kids so schools are not a concern for me. I would like to be near places to shop and to eat.

Any help is appreciated.

Congratulations! The most important thing is to try to be near your work, so I'd look in Fredericksburg. I wish I knew more about the area to give you specific suggestions, but there are others on this board who know more than me who will probably chime in soon.

Live where you work! That's the ultimate goal. You do NOT want to have a commute.

Some of the "younger/hipper" places up north will be too far of a commute for you, so just confine your search to Fredericksburg.

I agree - look in Fredericksburg. It has a cute, little downtown with places to walk around and eat. And $50K is doable for that area. Best of luck to you!

Spotsylvania is one of the counties adjacent to Fredericksburg. I believe it is pretty much suburbia and perhaps even rural in parts. Others more familiar can chime in. Depending on where in Spotsylvania you are, the commute shouldn't be too bad.

I think downtown Fredericksburg is actually pretty hip...

That area is far from DC (well for most people around here) which is good news for you since you dont have a need to be close to DC. It is definatly one of the cheaper areas around here so I think 50k is definatly a decent salary for FB. I would look around the college of Mary Washington, there is a lot in that area.

I'm not that famiiar with the Fredericksburg area, or Spotsylvania but have been down there some and looked a little once west off of Plank Rd, Rt.3, and got the feeling that that main road can be a real problem for their rush hour. I know they are widening it, but again, look at where you job is an keep in mind the available routes.

At the same time, welcome to the area. Fredericksburg is a really neat town with a lot to offer.

Carol
