I'm trying to figure out why Fairfax County Public Schools have school for two and a half hours on the last day (June 21). I know they have been doing this for years and years. A lot of the students don't even bother to go. Seems like a lot of gas is being used by school buses for two and a half hours. Maybe there is a logical answer but I can't figure it out.

I have taught in other states and students HAVE to go a total of 180 days....there are a certain number of hours that they have to get in for it to count. Be thankful. I am in Alabama and we had to go for a full day on the last day of school.....kids are wild, teachers are about crazy by then....

I'm actually looking forward to school being out despite not having kids because the traffic will be a touch lighter.

Agree, I have to drive past Kenmore in the AM and usually right around the time kids are coming in. Looking forward for some seasonal relief from that backup.

I'm making a visit to Alexandria and it was a good thing that I was actually offered an August vacation week b/c traffic is noticeably lighter. I've driven from Alexandria to Tysons in Aug and early Jun and it is a big difference.

Why? For the same reason that they do everything, because they can! It's a monopoly, they don't care, they don't have to.
