From my impression of the candidates at the job fair, there were new grads there. I am not sure what the procedure is that you have to follow if you do not attend a Job Fair, however, if you have filled out your application and have your Virginia teaching certificate, I don't see anything wrong with contacting principals directly. Have you tried that yet? I just sent them a sort of cover letter, indicating my interest and giving a brief description of my background/experience, and attaching my resume. I don't think that could hurt at all. I would even contact schools that do no show openings on the list. Where I come from, they do much of their hiring at the last minute.

What grade level(s) or special area(s) are you certified to teach? I am just curious. I know that there is a lot of competition for elementary positions but there seem to be quite a few on the list. Did you apply for jobs on the list? Also, I am not sure what means you used, but I have had good luck with email. Snail mail...well, I think sometimes it may float around and eventually sit in a pile! Good luck! Keep your head up! You will get something if you keep at it! In AL, I had to be willing to wait, even until the last minute. My first year, I was hired two weeks into the school year! Interesting, huh?

Thank you for the response. Yes, in June I emailed cover letters/resumes to most of the principals in 2 Clusters this year and 3 Clusters last year. That is a lot of schools! I have also applied specifically to K-6 jobs on the list (I am certified K-6). I need to move to a FCPS job for a number of reasons, but I don't feel right about leaving my current school high and dry if I should find a job at the very last moment. I think last-minute hiring is living on the edge for the employer and employee, but I suppose that is how the business works....

Can someone tell me how when the invitations might go out for the job fairs? I applied online and did the online interview. Just wondering how long it might be before I hear something.
