This doesn't have to do with cigarettes, specifically, but with what the thread topic's veered towards in the last few posts: when I took out our trash last night, the apartment community's dumpster/corral/thingy was filled to the BRIM was disgusting food-related trash. Piles of it actually blocked my access to the compactor chute, and I wasn't about to touch any of it, so I was stuck adding our bag to the mess (in the most delicate, respectful [to the community] way possible, mind you ). But it just made me feel icky, in more than one way. What really stuck out in my mind was a huge, formerly-cellophane-wrapped styrofoam tray that'd had about fifty chickens worth of wings in it before last night (I'd guess). It was still dripping a bit of diluted blood onto some of the other trash. Ick!!

I have a feeling the offenders here were mostly the George Mason students who live in our complex. I've found that the college students in the DC suburbs (esp. in College Park, but the George Mason students leave something to be desired, as well) push the boundaries of undergraduate bad behavior into strange areas I'd never seen said boundaries enter before living here. Oh well! The area we're moving to next seems, based on descriptions on C-D, to be something of a college student repellent, at least.

I am so happy to see the postings on this topic... since when did my environment become the world's ashtray? If I threw candy wrappers and Starbucks cups out of my car window would these 'butt tossers' find that offensive? I would not because my parents raised me better. But, are they making ashtrays optional in newer cars? I do not smoke... but, what's the deal with this disgusting and dangerous habit?

I cannot drive with my windows open on a fine day because I had noticed the film from cigarette ash in my vehicle. Yuk!
