Hi,
We are moving to the area soon and I am trying to find out what the commute from Ashburn to Crystal City is like. How long and what are my options?

LONG. It all depends on when you leave and go to work. At a min. it's probably an hour each way.

There is a Loudoun County bus that goes from a few stops in Ashburn to Crystal City. I take the bus to downtown DC and it works our pretty well. You do have to get used to commuting on a schedule but if you can do that, it's not bad. Cost is $7 each way with a SmartTrip Card or $8 cash. Parking at the lots is free. The stops in/near Ashburn are at Christian Fellowship Church (off Loudoun County Pakway), Ashburn North & Dulles North Transit (Sterling - near Old Ox Rd and the Greenway)

The bus schedules can be found at Commuter Bus Schedules (http://www.loudoun.gov/Default.aspx?tabid=969 - broken link).

Good luck!!!

I was about to say the same thing. There's commuter busses that go driectly from the church on Beaumeade Circle commuter lot in to either metro stop or closer in. theres another lot that has busses that go directly in.
I think the biggest problem with the Ashburn eastbound commute is everyone is trying to avoid paying tolls and they jam up waxpool/28

There is also a vanpool (which I ride) - leaves at 6 a.m. and arrives in Crystal City at approximately 6:45 am. It's extremely easy and convenient and if you are working for the gov't they subsidize (so it's free basically). Check out erideshare or send me a note for more info, not sure I should post ph number or e-mail address here for contact. Van pooling is the way to go though, if it fits your schedule - sit back and catch a quick nap to and from and you are soon at your destination!

what hours? normal commute times?

that commute would be long even in the middle of the night. driving it during the day would not be fun.

forget route 66 during rush hour(s) unless you're carpooling. cops heavily patrol the road to catch and ticket HOV offenders.

I know a guy who commutes from Ashburn to Rosslyn (area in Arlington north of Crystal City). He says it takes him about 50 min at rush hour, using the toll road. Crystal City would be slightly longer using this route, probably an hour.

Are we talking the peak (as in, 8-930am) of Rush Hour? That seems hard to believe unless the guy has a hybrid with its attendant "ride on HOV-2 lanes solo" license plate.
