I'm pretty sure you mean Eaton Place, right by 123 and 66, rather than Easton (which doesn't seem to show up on Yahoo or Google Maps).

I work on the other side of 66 from your potential office and live along the Orange Line in Arlington. My morning commute is about 30 minutes (leaving between 7:30 and 7:45) but my evening commute can range from 25 minutes to 50 depending on the traffic (a normal commute is probably about 40, though). My commute's fine, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't handle the extra 15-20 minutes each way that a commute from the more interesting neighborhoods in DC would require.

I would recommend Arlington for someone in your situation, but look into buildings that are further from the Metro. Sometimes I regret where I chose to live because the price premium to be close to the Metro isn't really all that necessary, since I drive to work. For $1500/month near the Metro in Arlington, you're probably looking at roommates or a studio, especially once you factor in the cost of a parking spot.

Ha! More like an extra 30-45 minutes depending on the neighborhood in the District. I have had a few 90 minute commutes when going straight to the gentleman friend's house in the city.

I would recommend a spot in Westover. There's a little row of shops on Washington Blvd. Its cheaper than Clarendon or Ballston, the only problem (and one reason I don't live there) is that the apartments there don't seem to have in-unit washer and dryers. If you can live without one then Westover is perfect. You'd have a 20 minute morning commute and 30 minute afternoon commute.
