I'm glad you pointed this out. That's exactly why this language is in the job description--they probably have the data to show that these things really are necessary to do the job, which they need to justify excluding people who may have a lot of other abilities, but can't handle some of the basic requirements.

Even people with arthritis, who may not be considered disabled for many other jobs or for other activities, may not be able to do it, or would be very unhappy in the job. They don't want to waste time applying and would prefer to self-select out, so that language is helpful.

Please stop! I just found this amusing. There was no deeper intent, no intention to step on anyone's toes. Perhaps I should have included that the job was for a truck driver. Obviously you'd need to sit and walk and use your hands to do this.

It reminded me of the warning on hair dryers: don't use them in the bathtub. Really? Some things shouldn't have to be said.

The ad placer should have just said "valid D.O.T. card required"....any potential applicant that's qualified for the job would know instantly what that means.
