Recently got a job in the Reston area and I am trying to figure out the best place to live that wont cost me my first born. I am wondering where most people locate themselves if they work in the Reston/Herndon area? I have visited the area a few times before and I have driven through DC many times before so I understand the traffic. Any help would be appreciated.

What's wrong with Reston itself? There's a good variety of places to live here.

Nothing at all wrong with Reston. I love the area and I think my family would like it as well. I am just concerned with the price of housing.

I love Reston, but it can be pricey. Cascades is just 7 miles away and you get much more house for the $$. The homes are newer, too.

Here's a photo tour, to give you an idea of what it's like.

Cascades/Lowes Island (a part of the northern section of Sterling)

cascades is not your only option, but it's my personal favorite.

I work in Reston. People I work with live all over. Some in Arlinton, Leesburg, Springfield, Ashburn, Reston, Herndon, Fairfax, and other nearby areas.

I vote for the South Lakes area of Reston.

You should say more about your parameters for what you want in a place to live, then you'll get better advice.

Give us some parameters- family size, max house price etc. I personally love reston but love Vienna (we lucked out) and the schools are much better in general.. obviously, that is important to us. But- as many will tell you- Fairfax county schools are all good, there are just degrees of good. Regardless, comparing to most places, they are excellent.
