My husband loves gourmet/good rootbeer. It's his birthday coming up and I would like to either take him to a brewery/tavern where they brew it or buy some at a store. So far I have only been able to find IBC. He likes one like Henry Weinharts or Thomas Kemper. Any suggestions?

I remember that Hops used to brew their own root beer and it was very strong. Hops is located at Potomac Yards not too far from Reagan National Airport. Food is very mediocre though.

IBC is pretty darned good for coming out of a bottle, but I'd agree that hubby should try a fresh, cold Old Dominion draft right out of the tap and see what he thinks. It's the Pride of Olde Ashburn since...well, um 1989.

Whoa! Bite your tongue, Christine! What part of "flaky, buttery complimentary appetizer croissants" do you not like?

OK--so it's not gourmet. But I love the Jamaican chicken with broccoli. OK, so it's slightly overcooked. I still like it.

Automatic iced-tea refills, easy parking, and a short waddle to the movie theater.

Give me buttery or give me death!

OK, as to root beer: CJNAspen, check this out: http://www.shenandoahbrewing.com/

"We also make a handcrafted root beer in limited amounts and our root beer and flagship beers have been accepted in the Virginia's Finest Products Program."

Okay, yes, I love those. At Hops, I do best getting a burger or something fairly simple. It's when I try to get some real food that I get a bit disappointed. Certainly it's not "bad" by any means. Just okay.

Hey, my standards are low--or at least unusual. I judge a plate of food partly on surface area.

Mrs. C. always wants me to ask for more croissants, but I always feel embarrassed to do it.

I understand. My friend and I always want to get another plate but we truly feel like pigs.

Did they ever have A&Ws here where they brought your burgers and root beer out to your car?
