Anyone know offhand if the stretch of Route 50 from Gum Springs Rd to Chantilly going to get a new town center and/or widening? Our builder mentioned that a new town center was going up as well as a GMU campus. Any truth to that?

Thanks

If anyone is interested, I did see a sign that Lowes and Target will be setting up shop near Gum Springs Rd. I guess my builder wasn't making it up .

I used to live on a farm on what is now Gum Springs road! (it was just old rt 659 back then) We were out there for a soccer game in the spring and was AMAZED at the construction and all the at the intersection of rt 50. used to be all farms and little rambling ranch houses.

My friend said who lives in South Riding said there is going to be a new target, BabiesRus and Gold's Gym over there. Does anyone know where exactly? And if this is confirmed to build?

There were SUPPOSE to be several new shopping centers built but it seems they may be on hold due to the bad economy. There was a sign for Arcola Center (off Evergreen Mills), which is where the Target and Lowes were suppose to go, that said it was coming in 2009...well, 2009 is about over and while some land was cleared, I haven't seen anything else happening there. We were really hoping for some basic retail to come out this way! The Sheraton that they started building off Rt. 50 (across from the new Harris Teeter), halted construction earlier in the year. So now we have to see that eye sore every time we drive up and down 50.

I didn't realize it was vacant. But really, I can't imagine anyone buying a Hummer in this economy!

Oh, that's too bad. We are moving out there (to Ridings at Blue Springs) and I was really excited for a gym. My friend said a few stores were planned, but I guess stalled... Totally makes sense though. Maybe when the economy picks up we'll get more. Thanks.

The shopping center development is supposed to go on the northwest side of the intersection of 50 and Loudoun County Parkway. They were supposed to start construction last fall I think, but now I don't think it's supposed to begin until 2010/11. I've heard all sorts of rumors about what stores are going in: Borders, Old Navy, just about any chain you can name. Target and Walmart have their names on the sign, so I assume that's a done deal. Anyhow, it's supposed to be HUGE.
