Hello, My husband and I are contemplating a move from Queens NY and have been trying to figure out where to go. We want a suburban setting and good school districts. We have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. I am a senior marketing manager in the credit card business and my husband is a software engineer. We would both need to find jobs.
We are also looking to purchase our first home, so our price range is mid 300s. A friend of mine sent me the following places:

Would you all add any additional places for us to look? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Not to sound harsh, but get the jobs first. You know it is a tight market everywhere, even NoVa.

Then when you know where you'll be working, you can start to narrow in on the area to live. Traffic is a nightmare here and you'll want to be as close as possible to your workplace. You can cross McLean and, probably Fairfax City, off your list -- you'll never find a house there for $300k. Some of those other areas will have townhouses in that range.

With the other areas being further out, you might find something but you have to then consider commute time.

Good luck.

Those locations are all over the map. Like Lynchburg said, you want to find out where you're going to be working before you decide on home base, or else you could end up with nightmarish commutes and with young children I don't think you'd want that.

Echo the advice of others -- get jobs first, find a place to rent, and then after a year or so, think about where you might like to buy.

If you insist on moving now, you need to find somewhere cheaper. move to Leesburg/Warrenton/Woodbridge or even Winchester/Front Royal/Fredericksburg and rent until you find jobs, then decide where to go once you get jobs.

(I imagine interviewing while living in Queens might be difficult, but if you don't have jobs, better to live further out and save money at least initially.)
