Oh, I'm going to miss the store over in Bailey's Crossroads. It's been pretty sparsely stocked over the last 8-12 months, but I've always come out of there with an armload of books and loved the openness of it -- and I got to see Lyle Lovett there a few years back.

The B&N at 7 Corners has a zoo of a parking lot and I always feel like I need to duck because the ceilings are low and it's such a dark store. I rarely spent time or money there. Guess I'll have to now.

Does anyone know when they will be closing their doors?

Or Walgreens There are so many Walgreens in PWC now!! I totally don't understand the demand.

Back to the original topic. I spent 20 minutes on the phone getting my money back for the Borders Rewards program. I upgraded my free membership to their $20 plan back in early June. Since they'll be closing all their stores, I wanted a refund because I wouldn't be able to use it. When I called Borders Customer Service I was told that since it was more than 30 days since I had signed up, they couldn't do anything for me. They said that I could continue to use the Reward+ program online. They wouldn't even refund a prorated amount.

So I called my Credit Card company (Capital One) and spent about 10 minutes telling them the situation. Cap1 said they'd credit me the $20, no problem. Eat that Borders...

Anyways, I'm sorry to see them go. I hope all their store associates can quickly find employment. I knew a couple of them by their first names since I was always in there studying. They were always very helpful.

I'll be sorry to see the store close at DTC. It was a nice place to park members of my family while the rest of us looked at clothes.

BAM is an independent company, not owned by B&N. Since many of the local Borders were profitable, I'm hoping BAM will buy up some of these locations in the fire sale. I've never seen the Borders in Pentagon City lacking for customers. This could also be an entry for Half Priced Books into the local market.

The one thing I will miss is the Seattle's Best Coffee; to me it tastes much better than Starbucks (yes, even though SBC is owned by Starbucks...).

How come they are licensed to sell the Nook, then? I know Best Buy can, but it seems odd that a competitor chain would be able to do that.

I'm not saying you're wrong, it is just confusing.

I just got an email from Borders that their going-out-of-business sale starts today (Friday).

I have fond memories of hanging out at as a gawky pre-teen at the Metcalf-Overland Park (KC, KS) Borders location with my mom way back in the very early '90s. My favorite sections (back then) were the sale table(s) and the foreign language children's books. This also means that Fairfax City's only bookstore will be closing. Sad!!
