Have you been there? It sounds like it would be fun! There is also one in Baltimore but the House Rules are a bit offputting: Welcome to The Big and Beautiful Bengies Drive-In Theatre Has anyone been to the one in Baltimore?

For an almost drive-in experience closer to home, there is a "drive-in" theatre done on Saturday nights in August by Fairfax County in Centreville. We went a few years ago and enjoyed it. It's on a blow-up screen so not quite the same as a real theatre, but it's very nearby! There were a lot of vendors set up there where you could buy food, too. Here's the info:

We've been to the Family Drive-In in Stephens City, but haven't gone this summer. It's pretty nice. We like to take the convertible and put the top down. Last time we went they had the old speakers that you could use or you could listen to the movie through your radio.

The Family Drive-In Theatre

Here is the link. You could stay for both movies, but it gets you back kind of late if you have kids. Still, it's only $3.50 for kids 11 and under, so no big deal if you leave after the first movie.

Thanks! It sounds like a fun family activity. Although, I'm sure we'll have to leave early. I haven't been to a drive-in since I was a kid in pajamas. It might be nice to do a day in Winchester and then go to the drive-in. Now I just need to find a free night!

Holy poo! I was just talking about this w/my husband last night he is from western Pa where the news of the Hi-Way Drive-In's (Latrobe,Pa) imminent demise is a giant blow to the landscape. My older kids' great grandfather built the place and their father shared memories of sitting in their driveway to watch movies.
He was somehow insistent that there had to be a drive in near Fredericksburg. I hated to tell him no.

Looks like there are only 9 operating in VA.

I've been to the one in Moneta too. It is fairly new, and not all that great.

There used to be a drive in located in Manassas but it's been gone since the early 80's. We used to get calls all the time to move on the people watching for free from a business behind the place.
