I don't think anyone expects to be thanked individually. There've been times when I've posted a query and come back in an hour to find several great replies--and then it would be too overwhelming to thank each one separately. So I just do one thanks for everyone. I don't think that results in ending the thread; subsequent newcomers have often added advice after this.

Rep points are nice but no big deal, at least to me. It's not like we can redeem them for cash or something.

You're making a major unfounded presumption. I'm not even on Facebook. I would venture that those of us who value basic manners probably skew older as a group--I'm 40-ish--and thus are less likely to be into social media.

If you ask for help and get it and don't take the 3 seconds to type "Thanks, all," you're just a no-class chump. My day isn't ruined, but good luck getting more help from me or about 90 other people on here who expect basic courtesy.

I think the fact that you would call someone who doesn't thank you on an anonymous msg board a no class chump shows you take this way too seriously.

I don't think I do. Sure, it's a message board, but we're all real human beings, using our own real minutes out of our own, real lives to (we hope) help other people. It's not like this is a video game. Some people here are actually friends in real life, having met here first.

Is "failure to acknowledge" on par with puppy torture? No. It's just bad manners. Which I think does reflect a person's values and upbringing.

Are there guidelines or instructions somewhere on this website? (b/c I couldn't find any)
The rep is on the bottom left corner of the post. You can hit it to send a rep point or right click to open it and make a comment with your point.

I truly do appreciate all the advice I have received on this forum and I rep everyone who responds if I can!
I hate to think I close off my questions too quickly by replying back with a "thanks".. I will have to watch that..

I don't see how it ends the thread. If someone says "Thanks for all the replies! I pulled the trigger and am very happy with my Justin Bieber tattoo!"--then OK, no sense in replying. But a mere "Thanks for all the help" leaves the door open, in my view.

I'd have to say most people I've responded to on any message board (not just this one) have not acknowledged me. I don't really expect them to and I am not bothered when they don't. I just figure it's the nature of the beast of message boards. It's nice when people thank me, but I don't hold it against them if they don't. I just never thought of it as being expected "net-a-quette" and therefore while saying thank you is nice, I've never though it was exactly "necessary" either.

And I do try to thank in my threads--although I've been guilty of posting my question and thanking people in advance--but that's mainly when I know I won't be getting back to forum anytime soon.

On most message forums, it doesn't matter. C-D, though, is a little different, or seems so to me. I like helping, and appreciate when they come back, but if they don't I just forget about it.

Thank you Heidi60, your response is also useful for myself.

This is a public forum which many people can share and exchange ideas. It is sad that some people are thoughtless but that just reflects a cross section of life. I do agree that some threads appear to be started by people who are addicted to arguing, so, when that becomes apparent, I just move on as it serves no useful purpose for me. We are free to spend our time here as we please.

Like someone said: Butterflies goes where they please and please where they go.
