I thought this was interesting; the DC-based "Coalition for Smarter Growth" issued an update this month praising Fairfax County for its various planning initiatives, including the plans to redevelop the Tysons area:

Fairfax County - Coalition for Smarter Growth

I know some have criticized the county's failure to have implemented similar plans decades ago, but it's not unusual to benefit from 20-20 hindsight. This type of recognition from a pro-TOD group based in DC would not have been forthcoming 5-10 years ago here. Obviously, it will take a long time to recognize the benefits of many of these plans, but the county is fortunately starting from a position of strength (as measured by jobs and the income levels of its residents), rather than trying to rebuild after a period of sustained decline.

yes, there are a lot of really positive things happening in Fairfax county. The link provides an interesting list. FFX county certainly has a lot on its plate.
